TEENAGE singing sensation Adele didn't so much burst onto the stage at the Tyne Theatre on Thursday night, but meander, as she performed for the first time in Newcastle.
With a voice not disimilar to Amy Winehouse's, the soul singer nervously started chatting to the audience and tugging at her top before beginning her set.

Unlike most teen stars the star wandered onto the stage with a glass of tea before thanking us (more than once) for coming, and apologising at several intervals throughout the set for failing to hit notes that would have gone unnoticed by most.

The 19-year-old soul and jazz singer showed off her amazing and unusual voice that could easily have been heard throughout the theatre without the aid of a microphone, as she belted out hits off her album 19, including Melt my heart to stone, Tired, Crazy for you and the fantastic First love.

This time last year, few people had heard of Adele, but just 12 months on and the amazing singer is playing a nine-date UK tour to packed crowds - and she is obviously staggered that she has come so far so quickly.

The unasuming singer is clearly still getting used to being in the lime light, and occasionally struggled to look at home on stage - but her amazing voice and powerful lyrics really impressed the crowd as she performed with a full band and string quartet for tracks such as her first record Hometown Glory.

The crowd even forgave the singer when she brought the words onto the stage for a cover of The Coral's Dreaming of You that she had forgotten the previous night in Cardiff.

And another amazing cover from her album, of Bob Dylan's Make you feel my love, was another hit with the crowd.

But it was her amazing performance of the song she is perhaps best known for - Chasing Pavements - that got her the biggest cheers, and a standing ovation as she bought the evening to a close.

Adele may have won the first Brit Awards Critics' Choice Award in March, but the rising star showed she still had her feet firmly on the ground, and gave a fantastic performance at the intimate venue - clearly still blissfuly unaware of her star-status.
