WIDDRINGTON'S Grange View First School is to change its status to a Church of England school from September 1.
Governors of Grange View First School approached the County Council about proposals to change from a Community school to a Church of England Voluntary Controlled First School. Statutory notices were published in April, after statutory and informal consultation.

Northumberland County Council agreed to allow the change of category on the basis that it will enable the school to build upon its partnership working and establish a closer link with the Church of England and local Parish Church to enhance the personal development and well being of the pupils.

The change of category could also help to retain future pupils who might contemplate attending the alternative Church of England VA First School in a nearby village, thereby protecting the viability of the school.

Technically, the school must be closed and officially re-opened immediately as a faith school. The school will continue to serve all members of its community, regardless of faith. There will be no change to the catchment area.
