A NEW Northumberland tourist guide is flying off the shelves.
More than 7,500 people have requested a copy of the Northumberland Holiday and Short Breaks Guide after a direct mail campaign, with another 2,700 distributed in response to online enquiries and a further 2,000 from telephone requests.

The brochur
e has been produced by Northumberland Tourism as part of an overall marketing campaign and its release is timed to coincide with the 'early year blues', the nation's most popular time for holiday planning.

It shows the County's attractions and specialities, as well as details of accommodation providers.

Northumberland Tourism Marketing Manager Joanne Dolezal said: "Despite the economic uncertainty our annual guide continues to be a hugely successful publication in attracting new and repeat visitors to the County.

"In 2008, 48 percent of those receiving copies came to stay in Northumberland."

"Even in times when online research and booking is becoming more popular, demand for real brochures stays buoyant."

The guides have been sent to every Tourist Information Centre in the country and will be distributed at major national exhibitions and events.

There are also smaller versions for accommodation providers.
