TALENTED teenagers at Morpeth's High School are taking to the city centre stage in a special concert.
The King Edward VI School Choir and Orchestra will perform at The Cathedral Church of St Nicholas in Newcastle and there will be a range of musical treats in store.

There will be highlights from 'Messiah', regarded as composer Handel's most famous work, and concertos by Bach, Haydn and Rimsky-Korsakov, with frequent solo pieces.

KEVI Head of Music Robin Forbes said: "I went to see a concert at the church and thought it was a wonderful acoustic setting.

"We don't normally do concerts outside of Morpeth, but it will be a great experience for the students to perform in a great venue and somewhere new.

"We decided to include highlights from Messiah as it's 250 years since Handel's death. It's a packed programme and we hope to get a good number of people coming along from Morpeth."

The musical instrument soloists will be Charlotte Christensen and Sarah Lawson (flutes), David Forbes (cello), Jimmy Ingram (trombone) and Charlotte Kennedy (violin).

And singing on their own will be Sally Graham (soprano), Rachel Caisley (alto), Richard Pinkstone (tenor), Tessa McKean (soprano) and Charlotte Christensen (alto).

Guest musicians will be joining the pupils for some of the concert, including former KEVI students Alex Banfield and Isolde Roxby who are among the solo singers.

Richard is getting used to singing in cities as he is part of the National Youth Training Choir scheme and has performed at cathedrals in Coventry and Wakefield.

The 16-year-old Morpeth town centre resident, who will sing Comfort Ye and Every Valley from Messiah, said: "I'm very excited about performing in the concert. We have been rehearsing since the start of term so a lot of effort has gone into it.

"It will be great to sing with a wonderful orchestra in such a good acoustic setting. I really enjoy being part of school productions and events such as Fame earlier this year and the annual carol service."
The 'Hallelujah' concert will take place on Saturday, November 21, from 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the school general office on 01670 515415, priced £7.50 for adults and £4 for students and children. On the door they are £8 for adults.
