A year ago Morpeth was devastated by the worst flood in living memory.
More than 1,000 houses were affected when the River Wansbeck burst its banks on Saturday, September 6.

Emergency services were caught out by the speed and scale of the disaster, but no lives were lost.

Community spirit and involvement has playe
d a huge part in the recovery process, which is ongoing.

Work on a scheme to protect the town from future flooding continues, with construction expected to start in 2011 for completion two years later.

The flood and its aftermath have been reported extensively in the Morpeth Herald and here, on its website.

Here are links to some of the reports, and many videos, which we published online in the immediate aftermath of the flood. Others can be found by using the site search box.
