All change at the post office

EXTRA opening hours are being planned for Ponteland Post Office with a change in premises.

The Post Office is proposing to move the Merton Way branch 14metres from its present base into another outlet along the street.

The move would enable the facility to have a more open-plan layout and extra opening hours, opening half-an-hour earlier each day and extending Saturday opening into the afternoon.

Regional Network Manager Sue Richardson said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Ponteland and we are confident that this new, modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“The proposed changes to the branch are part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6,000 branches, about half the Post Office network, converting to new, modern style branches.

“The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The new facility would have three serving positions – two screened and a third at the retail counter.

The same range of products and services available at present would be provided.

Proposed opening hours are from 8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday.

Consultation on the plans will run until March 1. Submissions can be made in writing to Freepost, Your Comments, Post Office Ltd, or by email to comments@postoffice.co.uk
