FOR the past five years, Morpeth Rugby Club has allowed the local Lions to collect donations at the end of the annual Fireworks Display.

This has resulted in collections of between £200 and £300 each year.

These funds help Morpeth Lions with its Christmas activities that include an afternoon tea and entertainment for the elderly, Christmas food parcels for many needy families and toys for those children who would otherwise receive little.

Club President Simon Pringle and some fellow Lions recently visited the rugby club to show their appreciation by presenting a framed certificate to Morpeth RFC President John Price and his committee.

Responding to Mr Pringle’s words of thanks, Mr Price said: “We are very aware of Morpeth Lions Club’s work in the community and wish it every future success.

“As a rugby club, we feel that we, too, are part of this great community and are happy to help in whatever way we can.”
