Appeal for crash pad volunteers

A SERVICE for young people in crisis is seeking support from residents in Northumberland.

The Barnardo’s Crash Pad scheme is looking for volunteers to act as hosts to provide temporary accommodation in their homes for a young person aged 16 to 18.

The spare room will be required for up to eight weeks and training and ongoing support from Barnardo’s will be provided.

Single people, couples or families can all apply as hosts and they will receive a fee of around £160 a week.

The charity is also seeking volunteer mediators to work with young people and their families to resolve difficulties caused by homelessness.

Northumberland County Council Executive Member for Children and Young People Lesley Rickerby said: “We are keen to support this successful scheme, which can make such a difference in a young person’s life.”
