Back us plea to business

AGE UK Northumberland is calling on local businesses to support its work.

The county’s population is ageing and life expectancy is increasing. By 2021, it is expected that 50 per cent of its population will be aged 50 or over and the number of people aged 85 or more is expected to reach 11,000.

Catrina Flynn, Age UK’s Fund-raising Manager, said: “Old age will have an impact on all of us – we are an increasingly ageing population but not necessarily an increasingly well population.

“We believe that a society which cares about and cares for its older people is a civilised society.

“We hope that local businesses will get behind our events and activities, as the funds raised will support our wide range of services which enhance life for vulnerable, isolated and often lonely older people throughout Northumberland.”
