Cash pledged for parking bays

A PONTELAND councillor has committed more funding for work to be carried out to Thornhill Road.

Following talks with Isos housing association, Coun Richard Dodd will use his small schemes allowance to install 11 parking bays for residents of bungalows.

People have faced difficulties parking, particularly during the school run times.

An effort has been made to clamp down on inconsiderate parking around Ponteland First and Richard Coates Middle schools over the last four years, with Coun Dodd funding a pedestrian crossing and the extension of double yellow lines.

He said nearly £30,000 has been allocated from his funding for Thornhill Road and the parking spaces are “the final piece of the jigsaw”. He is also looking at work for the lay-by outside Merton Way shops to create extra parking.
