Cemetery management comes under the spotlight

A CEMETERY committee has been formed to deal with the implications of an asset transfer in Ponteland.

The group, which is made up of councillors, will make recommendations to Ponteland Parish Council about how to run Prestwick Cemetery. The authority is taking over responsibility for the facility in April.

Members of the full council agreed the terms of reference for the committee and noted the appointment of the Mayor, currently Peter Cowey, as chairman, with Coun Robin Ramsay serving as Vice Chairman.

They also approved the appointment of Northumberland County Council as the contractor to provide the service on behalf of the town council in 2013/14 under a Service Level Agreement.

The contract will be closely monitored by the committee to help it come up with a strategy to manage the cemetery from 2014/15.
