Couple get hitched again for golden day
Mr and Mrs Forster celebrating their golden wedding
THE wedding bells tolled once again for a Ponteland couple as they went all out to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
Elizabeth and Maxwell Forster had a full marriage ceremony to mark the occasion at St Mary’s Church, complete with flowers and choir boys.
They were both aged 24 when they got married at a church in Gateshead 50 years ago and after living in a few different places, they moved to Ponteland 10 years later.
Mrs Forster, who mainly worked in hospitals, said: “We wanted to do something special for our golden wedding anniversary and we decided that having a wedding ceremony would be nice because it could be enjoyed by all our family and friends.
“We had some choir boys singing as my husband was a music teacher and choirmaster.
“He was also part of an orchestra that used to play at the high school.
“About 100 people came along to St Mary’s and it was a beautiful occasion – we even had a vintage car to take me and Maxwell to the church.
“We also had a big party at the Diamond Inn after the ceremony.
“We’re still very much in love. We go walking a lot together and we’re both keen gardeners.”
The couple have two grown-up children – son Andrew and daughter Julia.
