Fines could fund repairs

INCOME from parking fines should be used to repair Morpeth flood damage, a councillor has said.

Widdrington Station and Stosbwood parish councillor Anderson Crowe has complained at the amount of enforcement action being taken against drivers in the town for parking infringements.

But he said that money from the fines could now be put to good use.

“Will Northumberland County Council find it fitting to give some of the money it has taken off motorists to put the flood damage right?” he said.

“Seeing the money it gets from parking tickets I think it is absolutely disgusting.

“It should put that money into flood work.”

A council spokeswoman said: “We don’t use parking revenue to pay for flood recovery. As we have said many times, it goes back into the car parking services.”
