Flood fund tops £8,000

AN appeal to support Morpeth’s latest flood victims has topped £8,000.

The fund was set up by Morpeth Voluntary Service Organisations. And last week the Herald reported that just short of £4,550 had been raised in four days of street collections.

Now that total has almost doubled, thanks to contributions from Morpeth Town Council, the Mary Hollon Annuity and Relief In Need Fund, Morpeth Lions Club, Morpeth Rotary Club and Rotary clubs in Keswick, Carlisle and Tynemouth.

The money will be distributed by the British Red Cross, based on the extent of damaged suffered.

Furniture is available through the Revive project, with costs met by Northumberland County Council. For details contact Julie Young on 01670 517431.
