MORPETH residents chipped in to help a charity that supports blind and vision impaired people across Northumberland.

Each year, the Seniors’ Section Captain at Morpeth Golf Club nominates a charity to receive a donation and Roger Smith selected the Northumberland County Blind Association (NCBA).

A total of £725 was raised for the organisation, which is based in Low Stanners. The money was collected at a variety of events throughout the year.

Mr Smith praised the generosity of the Seniors’ section in the support they had given.

NCBA Chief Executive Lorraine Dryden said: “In the current economic climate, many charities have reported lower donation levels and competition for grant funding is fierce.

“Sustainability of the much needed voluntary support services to vulnerable people is stretched and therefore it was fantastic to receive such an unexpected and generous donation from Morpeth Golf Club, which will contribute towards the delivery of support services to local people.”
