A PERMANENT memorial to former members of a Morpeth community group who have passed away has been installed in the town centre.

As part of its 40th anniversary projects, Morpeth Lions Club members have purchased a new seat out of their own pockets which is now in place along Bridge Street.

A plaque saying ‘In memory of Lions Club members who served Morpeth so well and are sadly no longer with us’ was recently fixed to it.

Lion Harry Cone, who led the project, said: “I started to plan it a little while ago and I’m glad it has now come to fruition, particularly during the club’s 40th anniversary.

“I’m very grateful to Morpeth Town Council for finding a place for the seat and arranging for its installation, as well as Falon Nameplates for doing an excellent job with the plaque.”

Morpeth Lions Club President Simon Pringle added: “As well as commemorating members who are no longer with us, this seat is a measure of support for the community which has backed us so well in the last four decades.”
