A roundabout way to boost income

COUNTY council officials are looking to boost income by increasing the amount of advertising opportunities in Northumberland.

More than 60 applications have been made by the authority for advertising consent on roundabouts around the county.

Consent is being sought for between two or four advertising signs on some of the biggest and busiest roundabouts in Northumberland.

Some of the applications are for retrospective approval as signs have already been put up.

A decision on the applications is not expected until next year, with the deadline for comments being the end of November.

A county council spokeswoman said: “These are sites we are putting forward, but they may not be approved for advertising.

“Companies interested in advertising spaces can see the list of the sites we have and pick from that. It’s a large expansion of the scheme we currently have in place.”
