Chapel extension

A PICTURESQUE chapel in Eshott village is to be extended to provide a lobby, kitchen, toilet and a store.

Thirston Parish Council made a holding objection until assurances were given about the effect on squirrels and bats, drainage, road safety and materials. County North Area Planning Committee members were told Eshott Old Chapel was in an area of high landscape value.

It was clear on site that an extension had existed there in the past, but officers said the proposed work would not look intrusive and the county ecologist was confident squirrels and bats would be safe. The committee, meeting at Alnwick, agreed unanimously.
