MP to monitor farming pay-outs

FARMERS still awaiting their Single Payments have been urged to contact MP Sir Alan Beith.

Many farmers in the county began receiving their money last month as the European Commission payment window opened.

But Sir Alan, whose constituency stretches from Berwick to Morpeth, is aware that in the past some farmers had to wait months, or even years, for their payment and he is keen to monitor the success of this year’s round.

He said: “Many farmers rely on their Single Farm Payment to keep them farming, producing food and protecting our countryside. Our farmers are the stewards of our landscape and making them wait months and years for the payment is wrong.

“I want to help any farmer in the constituency who feels they have had to wait too long to receive their payment. I am committed to do all I can to help them.”
