Planning policy is up for debate

CONSULTATION is continuing on a blueprint for Northumberland’s future development.

The Core Strategy outlines potential policies for Northumberland County Council to plan for employment and housing needs, renewable energy requirements and the provision of services and facilities over the next 20 years, at the same time as protecting the environment.

Consultation is now well under way for residents, organisations and businesses to have their say on the proposals and any comments will be fed back into the process for drawing up firm development control policy.

Head of Development Services Karen Ledger said: “Households and businesses in Northumberland should have received a leaflet explaining the consultation and how people can get involved.

“This new ‘preferred options’ planning document has taken account of the many strong concerns of Northumberland residents, including around issues such as attracting new employment opportunities, retaining local services and dealing with energy needs and demands. We want people to respond to these and other important issues now.

“We will be holding a third consultation this summer once we have completed further work on housing and green belt issues.”

Consultation on this stage will run until Wednesday, March 20. Copies of the document can be found online at www.northumberland.gov.uk/corestrategy or through council contact centres.
