Memories of life in mining country

Morpeth Inner Wheel

THE members of Morpeth Inner Wheel enjoyed a visit from Bob Crosby at their monthly meeting, held at The Queen’s Head Hotel on Tuesday, January 8.

Mr Crosby gave a very enlightening talk entitled Life In Billy Elliot Country, where he spent a very happy youth. He reminded us of a way of life in the Durham mining areas and of long-gone vibrant communities.

Then on Thursday, January 10, our members celebrated International Inner Wheel Day at the home of Marjorie Forsyth, where we enjoyed a lunch of homemade soup and delicious desserts. Our own member, Joan Wilkin, entertained us with some amusing Geordie anecdotes and songs.

Everyone brought some toiletries on the day as a contribution to Women’s Refuge, which is one of the many charities we support.

A great fellowship was had by all.
