A PEGSWOOD play facility has been renamed in memory of a former parish councillor.

Juliet Oakley, who was also a member of the Pegswood Community Action group, was the driving force behind the successful bid for £45,000 of Government funding to get it built at Welfare Park.

She died after a long illness last autumn, but she still played a major part in organising the official opening of the play area by the Duchess of Northumberland in June 2011.

Now the parish council has received confirmation from Northumberland County Council that it can be renamed the Juliet Oakley Activity Area.

New signs will be installed and artwork from Pegswood First School pupils will also be put on display at the site.

The play area includes a slide, grass mound, rope climbing frame, basket swing and rope swing, dry river beds with sand pits and tunnels.
