THE recent good weather for ducks was fitting for Cresswell tots as they dressed up for their annual fund-raising Toddle Waddle.

A total of 23 Cresswell Tiddlers took part in the sponsored walk in aid of the Meningitis Trust.

It is the ninth year that the play group has taken part in the challenge, raising more than £4,500 over the years, with more than £750 collected last year alone.

The toddle began at Cresswell Village Hall on Tuesday, with youngsters walking to the car park at Cresswell Ices, completing several laps and then making their way back to the hall, where they were rewarded with refreshments, certificates, books and chocolate buttons.

Organiser Delyia Getty said: “We managed to dodge the rain clouds, but the tiddlers found lots of puddles to play in. It was supposed to be a toddle waddle, but it was more of a paddle waddle.”

The group, which caters for children from six-months-old to three years, meets at Cresswell Village Hall on Tuesday mornings, from 10am to 11.30am, providing safe play, singing and snacks for youngsters to learn and socialise together. It also collects pennies for the Children’s Society.

The hall, which is an old lifeboat station, has recently secured funds for a new roof and heating, with support from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

Terry Wiliamson, from Cresswell Village Hall Association, said: “The funding, which is part of a wider funding package including Sir James Knott Trust, has meant we can complete our hall project and create a warm and welcoming place for community groups to use in the future.”

The regeneration trust has invested £33million in the region since it began in 1999 and funding of up to £5,000 is available for small voluntary groups in former coalfield areas to benefit.
