MORE details have been revealed about a special presentation to a former Morpeth Herald editor 25 years ago, which was published in our Images of Yesteryear section on January 12.

A family member told us that Jim MacKay, who was in the role for 35 years until the title was sold to Tweeddale Press, was honoured at the Town Hall in January 1987 by the then 11 former Mayors of Castle Morpeth since the borough was formed in 1974 and the Mayor at the time, Barnaby Dunn.

He received an engraved crystal decanter and a bottle of whiskey in appreciation of his journalistic services to the borough.

The former Mayors pictured are Dr George Cormack, Geoffrey Brown, Dalton Hutchinson, Laurie Hill, Tom Brown, David Adams, Alice Rowe, John Lough, Isobel Smail, George Green and Dorothy McBryde.
