Presentation picture brings back memories
Image of Yesteryear Staff and customers from the Morpeth branch of Presto raised more than 200 for the Northern Schizophrenia Society.
THE Images of Yesteryear photograph in the December 6 edition of the Herald brought back memories for a Morpeth couple.
On the right of the picture is Gena Fleming (then Temperley), founder of the Northern Schizophrenia Society, receiving a cheque from the Morpeth branch of Presto (now Morrisons).
She founded the society 26 years ago in memory of her daughter Denise, who tragically took her own life after struggling with manic depression for much of her adult life.
Her husband Alec got in touch to say that after starting out in her flat in Oldgate Court, the group continued to grow and it later developed into Contact Morpeth Mental Health, which supports hundreds of people each year.
Mrs Fleming helped the charity to get established and was one of the main volunteers until a couple of years ago.
