Parish takes on playing fields

PEGSWOOD Parish Council has agreed to take on responsibility for running the local Welfare playing fields from April 2014.

The facility is among those that the county council had set aside to transfer to town and parish authorities. It will continue to look after the fields in 2013/14, with Pegswood paying for it under special expenses.

Parish Clerk Kevin Cassie said: “Paying the county council to manage the playing fields in the next financial year means we have a year to get a good idea of how to run and maintain them, as well as discover how best to get the football pitches ready for a new season.

“It also gives us time to get a decent contract in place for the facility so we can provide value for money.”
