Parking enforcement rules change across county
NEW council officers are set to take over parking enforcement across the county next week.
From Tuesday the enforcement role for parking issues will pass from Northumbria Police to Northumberland County Council.
The authority has appointed 26 Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) to oversee the work, who will be instantly recognisable in red and black uniforms.
They will be talking to residents and visitors about parking rules, answering questions and giving out information leaflets about how not to get a fine, but they will also be responsible for issuing penalty charge notices for any vehicles parked incorrectly.
Information notices about the changes have been issued to every household in the county with council tax bills, posters have been displayed and a guide has been produced to remind drivers of the rules. It is available from libraries and information centres, or online.
Enforcement will be carried out on single and double yellow lines, resident parking schemes, school keep clear areas, loading bays, taxi ranks, disabled bays, car club and electric vehicle bays and in car parks.
The council says that taking on the enforcement role will reduce obstructive parking and congestion, provide more effective management of on and off-street parking and improve road safety.
