Plea to town florist
A MORPETH business group will once again ask a town florist to help with its bloom contribution.
It was revealed by Les English at a meeting of the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade that Heighley Gate is being stricter on the number of hours that its staff can work.
They will still water the main large displays in the town centre to support the Britain in Bloom and Northumbria in Bloom entries, but they will no longer be able to cover some of the smaller ones.
Chamber Chairman John Beynon said he would get in touch with Raymond Dixon, who supplies plants and flowers for the town and did some watering in 2011. If he agrees to do the work, he would be able to use Heighley Gate’s bowser.
Mr English asked if the group would be able to allocate some funding for this year’s bids and Mr Beynon said the matter will be discussed at a future meeting.
He added that moves are underway to display the Northumbria in Bloom trophies Morpeth won last year in a range of town centre shops.
