Roadworks access concern

CONCERN has been raised for residents’ access during roadworks.

Road closures have been announced for Bennets Walk and Alexandra Road to enable a new water main to be laid, and for Castle Walk and Duncan Gardens for the installation of two chambers in the carriageway and verge.

However, Coun David Parker said he is worried that the latter could leave some householders cut off.

“What provision is being made for the people of Castle Cottage in terms of car access and for people making use of Morpeth Castle through the Landmark Trust?” he said.

“There are also people who live in Castle Walk, between Duncan Gardens and Morpeth Castle, and as far as I can see they are going to be blocked off.

“I would like us to write to the authority saying we hope that these particular residents will be taken care of because if they block that road off they have had it, they will not be able to get in or out of their properties at all.”

Members of Morpeth Town Council’s Planning and Transport Committee will put the concerns to the highways authority.
