Seasonal treat for flood victims

A SMALL Christmas treat is on its way to Morpeth flood victims.

Following the flood in September, which hit 51 properties in the town, Morpeth Voluntary Service Organisations came together to collect funds for residents affected by the deluge.

Money came from street collections and a number of other sources over the two months following the flood and the British Red Cross agreed to administer the distribution of the cash.

The aim was to provide a heartfelt gesture of support from residents and organisations of the town.

And this week cheques have been delivered to the flood victims.

Morpeth Lions President Simon Pringle and Rotary President Laurie Walker said: “We are pleased to advise that the distribution of funds to flood-affected properties will be completed by the end of this week. Cheques will be hand-delivered by Lion and Rotary Club members.

“We wish everybody affected by the floods a happy Christmas wherever you are and all the best for the coming year. Our thanks and best wishes also go to everyone who donated to the Flood Appeal.”
