AIR cadets have taken a byte out of their technology fund-raising target after picking up a £100 donation.

Members of the 404 Morpeth Squadron are trying to raise £1,000 for laptops and tablets to enable them to complete exams online.

They also hope to improve facilities and equipment at their Gas House Lane headquarters and save towards a new mini-bus.

The group recently invited Energiekontor Project Manager Sam Dewar to their class to find out more about the company’s plans for a windfarm at Fenrother.

And Mr Dewar presented the £100 cheque as a gesture of goodwill.

Pilot Officer Karen Davies, who takes the cadets for their Monday and Thursday parade nights, said: “I would like to thank Sam and Energiekontor for their very kind donation.

“We are working hard to raise funds for a variety of things which help the youngsters in their cadet career, including better IT training kit, so we are grateful for their help.”

Mr Dewar said: “We’re keen to help local youngsters understand more about the benefits of renewable energy and in particular windfarm technology so this was a great opportunity to not only do that, but help out the cadets and make a positive contribution to their fund-raising cause.

“We’re delighted to help.”

The company is planning to erect five turbines near Longhorsley, providing power for around 7,900 households. It has already identified a community fund, with payments of up to £45,000 a year, to go to the Greater Morpeth Development Trust.
