Street collection for flood victims

A STREET collection will take place to raise funds for Morpeth flood victims.

Under the banner of Morpeth Voluntary Services Organisations, the flood victims street collection will take place tomorrow and if necessary will run for up to a week.

The initiative so far involves Morpeth Lions, Rotary and Soroptimists groups, but more organisations are expected to join in.

Lions President Simon Pringle said: “Quite a few of the organisations are having meetings tonight and we will be out on the streets tomorrow. Hopefully, we can get some sort of joint response so that there is a good number of people out.

“The flood has not been as bad as 2008 this time, but for those people who have been affected it is bad enough. We are keeping a watching brief at the moment because we don’t know what the needs are going to be, but at least if we can get started collecting funds we will be in a better position to help.”

Anyone wishing to help with the collection should meet at Morpeth Town Hall at 9am.
