Sun smiles down on barbecue

THE sun smiled on a county charity’s fund-raising barbecue.

The event, held at Northumberland County Blind Association’s (NCBA) headquarters in Low Stanners, Morpeth, was co-ordinated with a visit by German band Tonbande, who entertained with a selection of songs composed by their school teacher.

All seven members of the group are from a school for blind people in Cologne and they had been visiting Northumberland over the week. Their performance was in return for the organisation hosting two evenings at its resource centre.

Guests including Mayor of Morpeth Mark Horton dined on burgers donated by R Green’s butchers at Longframlington, and local businesses Faydani, Stait Photography and David Carr Grocers contributed prizes to the raffle.

A total of £415 was raised.

NCBA Chief Executive Lorraine Dryden said: “It has been an absolutely fantastic day enjoyed by all who attended. Our clients, volunteers and local businesses have been so supportive and as an added bonus, the sun shone.”
