Transport plans on timetable

A RAIL campaign group will receive on update on transport plans from a senior councillor next week.

The South East Northumberland Rail User Group (SENRUG) will host a public meeting on Wednesday.

And it has invited Northumberland County Council Executive Member for Infrastructure and Environment Simon Reed along.

He will give an update on progress to improve passenger services in the county, including how plans are going to restore services on the Ashington, Blyth and Tyne line.

The talk will be followed by a question and answer session.

SENRUG Chairman Dennis Fancett said: “SENRUG seeks to work closely with the county council and to have a constructive relationship with it.

“The council itself does not operate rail transport, but can be very influential in lobbying for improvements and supplying funding where required so it does not make sense for us to pursue our campaigns in isolation.

“We are looking forward to Simon giving us an update on what the council is doing, particularly as some of its work is behind the scenes and does not get a high public profile.”

The meeting will be held at Morpeth Town Hall at 7.30pm. It is open to anyone and refreshments will be available.
