THE two main buildings in a Northumberland village have received a funding boost after a special event was organised for local residents.

General Manager at Longhirst Hall Glenn Fletcher decided to hold a festive dinner for people living in Longhirst in one of the business’ private dining rooms.

And he agreed to give back 25 per cent of what the guests paid for their meals, which came to £225, to go towards the running costs at St John’s Church and the Village Hall.

One of the 45 residents who attended the event, Jill Elphick, said: “The Longhirst Hall staff made us a lovely dinner and it was nice that such an evening was held exclusively for local residents.

“We were delighted that when Mr Fletcher came up with idea, he generously decided to give back some of the cost to the village hall and church.

“He seems very keen to work with the Longhirst community on a regular basis.”
