SNAPSHOTS of village life over a 100-year period will be on display at a new exhibition.

About 180 photographs have been selected by the Longhorsley Local History Society for a presentation which covers 1880 to 1980.

The events covered include boundary rides and sports days, as well as instances where people are out enjoying themselves.

There are pictures of some of the area’s important figures over the years and the infamous boundary battle in 1927, which made national headlines.

A commentary to accompany the images will be provided by one of the society’s committee members Bill Ricalton.

He said: “The oldest photos we have go back to about 1880 so we thought it would be good to have a photographic century theme for the event.

“Not all the pictures have been taken with a professional camera, but they all tell a story of what life was like in Longhorsley at that time. They cover its people, properties, geography and events.

“We held a similar event 20 years ago which was very popular and I’m sure this one will be of interest to anyone with a Longhorsley connection, or indeed those who are interested in Northumberland’s history.

“It will also help to raise the profile of the society.

“The battle in 1927 was very fierce and our photos include some people dubbed as ‘vandals’ pulling up a fence.”

The presentation will take place in Longhorsley Village Hall tomorrow night from 7.30pm. Light refreshments will be available.
