SNOW is falling all around at Morpeth Library thanks to a local knitting group.

For two months, the library’s Knitterati group has been hard at work learning the art of crocheting from members Susan Smith and Cynthia Robinson-Begg.

And now the results are on show for all to see, with crocheted snowflakes of all shapes and sizes hanging in the reception and windows of the Gas House Lane facility. The decorations have been stiffened with starch to ensure they hang properly.

Knitterati co-ordinator Louise Freeman said: “The crocheted snowflakes have been a popular project after last year’s knitted reindeer. As with real snowflakes, there is a wide variety of patterns and sizes in the finished display and we even have some giant snowflakes in the foyer.

“It has been great fun to work on these decorations, and to see our members learning new techniques and grow in confidence is particularly rewarding.”

Team Librarian Lynne Riddell added: “The library is especially cheerful at Christmas and much of this is down to the fantastic effort that has been put in by the knitting group. The decorations are striking and will no doubt prove to be a real talking point over the coming weeks.”

The group meets in the library every Wednesday, from 10.30am to noon.

Members often knit for good causes, such as making baby sweaters for African children and lap blankets for a local care home.
