Bloom by name and by nature
A WORLD-RENOWNED gardening expert will share his knowledge at a talk next week.
Adrian Bloom, who has presented the BBC’s Gardeners’ World programme, will present an illustrated talk on the best perennials and grasses to an audience at Northumberland College’s Kirkley Hall campus near Ponteland.
Mr Bloom has spent a lifetime in gardening, starting his career at his father’s business Blooms of Bressingham in Norfolk, which was the largest perennial grower in Europe and had an international reputation for its unique varieties.
He shares the distinction with his father of holding the Royal Horticultural Society’s Victoria Medal of Honour, being one of the youngest to receive the award.
Mr Bloom has developed the garden Foggy Bottom, which has one of the largest collections of conifers in the UK, over the past 30 years and has written many books. His latest work, Blooms’ Perennials and Grasses, will be on sale at his Kirkley talk.
The event has been organised by the Friends of Kirkley Hall, with proceeds going towards educational trips for students and improvements to the public facilities.
It will take place on Wednesday, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £7 and booking is essential on 0191 236 2129.
