Book Day at St Robert's First School, Morpeth.

THERE were colourful characters galore as Morpeth pupils dressed up for World Book Day.

Children at St Robert’s RC First School in Oldgate joined in the global celebration by going to school dressed as their favourite book characters.

The whole school was involved and there were plenty of reading activities and literary quizzes throughout the day.

School administrator Ginetta Tym said: “The children absolutely loved it – they always enjoy dressing up and this is something we celebrate more or less every year.”

This year’s event was held on Thursday, March 7, in more than 100 countries worldwide.

It aims to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and develop a life-long love of reading through a celebration of authors, illustrators and books.
