A MORPETH community group has given a bumper payout to more than 30 charities and organisations.
Many of the beneficiaries had participated in Morpeth Lions Club’s Dickens of a Draw raffle scheme, in which the Lions organise the prizes and tickets and the organisations sell the tickets and receive all the money they raise back.
This year, they collected £5,374 between them and representatives from many of them were presented with their share at a recent club meeting.
Morpeth Lions President Dave Wheeler said: “I would like to congratulate you all on your efforts and feel sure that you will put what you have raised to good use.
“This is also a good opportunity to pay tribute to Lion Mike Nicholson, who organised the draw and ensured there were many attractive prizes.”
Club members also approved payments totalling £1,450 to other organisations including Sight Savers, Water Aid and the Newcastle Children’s Hospital Charity.
