A NATIONAL squad has been preparing for competition at one of the county’s leisure facilities.

Training sessions for England’s Life Saving team were held at Ponteland Leisure Centre to help them get ready for the Commonwealth Life Saving Championships in Australia next month.

The team will be competing in both the national and development competitions and are hoping to improve on their third place overall finish at the 2011 finals in South Africa.

Phil Evans, Business Manager at Ponteland Leisure Centre, said: “We are proud to have given the England Life Saving team a chance to use our facilities free of charge to assist in their training for the championships in Australia.

“We learned some great training techniques from them and we are delighted to have helped them prepare. It goes to show what a great place Ponteland Leisure Centre is to train and keep fit.”
