Exotic film kicks off new season

MORPETH’S community cinema will begin a new season this week — and the first film is already a sell-out.

The popular monthly film screenings at Morpeth Town Hall return tomorrow (Friday) with a showing of comedy drama The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

And already a Full House notice has gone up for the film.

However, those disappointed to have missed out on tickets can look forward to some more award-winning films over the coming months, with the re-make of spy thriller Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy showing in October, How Green Is My Valley in November and A Christmas Carol in December.

The cinema, which runs on the first Friday of each month, is operated by the Greater Morpeth Development Trust (GMDT) in association with Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure and Doorstep Pictures.

It is supported by Morpeth Town Council and La Bodega tapas bar.

GMDT Cultural Interest Group Director Frank Rescigno said: “The rush for tickets shows the demand for the community cinema. We have some terrific films lined up for the coming months.”

“Since re-launching the cinema 12 months ago we have built up an enthusiastic following and we are sure the new season will appeal to our regulars, as well as newcomers who want to see box office films on their own doorstep in Morpeth, without having to travel to Newcastle or Tyneside.”
