Festive shoppers get more time

LATE night Christmas shopping is being offered at Sanderson Arcade.

The centre will be open until 8pm every Thursday before Christmas, starting today, and it is hoped that other shops in the town will join the initiative.

Free mulled wine and mince pies will be served and this evening saxophonist Harry Mears will perform.

Centre Manager Medi Parry said: “We know this is a really busy time of year for people so we have decided to extend our hours on Thursdays in the run-up to Christmas. The whole town looks lovely in the evenings lit up for Christmas and we’re hoping this is something that all the traders in the town can get on board with.”

On Saturday the arcade will host the Bedlington Salvation Army Band and on Saturday, December 15, some real reindeer will be going along.

Meanwhile, the centre has announced that The Sick Children’s Trust will be its charity for 2013 and fund-raising is already under way with charity Christmas cards, designed by 10-year-old Naomi Godward from Chantry Middle School.

The Sick Children’s Trust provides free accommodation for families of children who are being treated at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Great North Children’s Hospital.

The cards cost £2 per pack from The Corbridge Larder or the arcade management suite.
