Photographers' fate on show at exhibition

STUDENTS’ skills are in the frame for two Morpeth exhibitions.

Seven second-year HND Photography students at Northumberland College are currently showing off their work in a display at Morpeth Chantry. And later this month, their pieces will join images captured by first-year students in an exhibition at Morpeth Town Hall.

The Chantry exhibition, which runs throughout March and April, has been put together by the students’ F8 group and aims to show their various styles.

Member Claire Brown said: “We chose the name F8 as it’s an aperture focus setting on a camera and it’s also text speak for ‘fate’, which felt perfect for where we want to be in the future.”

During the course students are given several themes for their pictures to broaden their expertise, but the exhibition at Morpeth Town Hall’s Corn Exchange will also feature photographs taken for their own enjoyment.

Course Team Leader Jacqui Dixon said: “Exhibiting their work is a fantastic opportunity for them to gain recognition, as well as giving them valuable professional experience.

“The students have organised the exhibition themselves as part of the important work-based element of the course and it will be the students’ first steps into the profession and they’ll find out if there is a market for their products.”

The display at the Corn Exchange will take place on Saturday, March 23, from 10am to 4pm. Pieces will be available to buy.
