GREEN-FINGERED residents from across the North East showed off the best of their home produce at a Morpeth garden centre.

Several entries were received for the third annual Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre Grow Your Own Vegetable Show last weekend, with prizes awarded in 10 categories.

Entrants came from near and far to take part in the contest, and families flocked to see the fruits of their labours.

Centre Events Co-ordinator Sarah Tait said: “We were delighted that lots of families joined us for our GYO Vegetable Show. This is the third year we have hosted this event and this year’s show was a great success.”

First place winners received a £5 garden centre voucher, with a £3 voucher for second places and a £2 voucher for those coming third.

There was also a trophy and £10 voucher for Best In Show, which was won by Charleigh Brown from Newcastle.
