RESIDENTS can laugh off any winter blues by going along to see this year’s Morpeth Theatre Group pantomime.

Preparations have been continuing for its Hansel and Gretel performances next week despite the snow.

The audiences will see a more modern version of the tale with a couple of twists.

Group Chairman Peter Denton, who is directing the show, is hoping that the Morpeth public will get behind the panto and said there is plenty for them to enjoy.

He added: “We managed to get a good four hours together on Sunday and although some rehearsals have been cancelled, the cast are learning their lines at home and everyone will be ready for the performances.

“There are lots of occasions for the audience to join in and there will also be a few topical jokes. We have two cracking actors – Lewis and Rosie – playing Hansel and Gretel and this year, the mad dame will be riding around on an ostrich.”

The shows, which are suitable for all ages, will take place at King Edward VI School on Thursday, January 31 and Friday, February 1 from 7pm, as well as Saturday, February 2 at 2pm and 7pm. Proceeds from the events will go to Barnabas Safe and Sound.

Tickets, which are priced £5 for adults and £3 for children, are available from morpeththe atregroup.ticketsource.co.uk or on the door.
