Ladies’ night in memory of Lorna

A MORPETH man is paying tribute to his late wife in a special club night.

As Master of Morpeth Masonic Lodge, John Fitzsimmons would usually host a Ladies’ Night once a year.

But this time, the event will have a special meaning as it is dedicated to his late wife Lorna, who died at St Oswald’s Hospice in 1986.

And the evening will double up as a fund-raiser for the hospice.

Mr Fitzsimmons said: “The hospice had only been open six weeks when my wife was admitted. As it recently celebrated its silver jubilee, I thought it was the perfect time to organise a fund-raising event in her memory and to raise money for the hospice.

“There will be singing and dancing and plenty of food on offer, including a pie and pea supper.”

The hospice provides free specialist care for adults and children with life-limiting conditions.

Fund-raiser Danielle Neighbour said: “We are so grateful to John for choosing to support us. The hospice has grown so much since John and Lorna accessed our care and that’s all thanks to the support of the local community and events such as this.”

Ladies’ Night takes place at the Masonic Hall in Howard Terrace on Saturday, from 7pm.

Tickets cost £9 and are available on 0191 285 0063, or by email to danielle neighbour@stoswaldsuk.org
