SKILLED snappers have teamed up with a Morpeth business to create a new charity calendar.

Newcastle Building Society (NBS), which has a branch in the Market Place, invited local people to submit both new and old pictures of the town that best summed up the local community.

Entries were judged by a panel of NBS staff and the best of the bunch were chosen to feature in the 2013 calendar, which is being sold in the Morpeth branch in aid of the Barnabas Safe and Sound young people’s charity.

Davy Bolam was named the overall winner for his colourful shot of rowing boats, and took home £100 in shopping vouchers.

Runners-up, who each received £20 vouchers, were Frank Roberts, Quentin Hawkins, John Barnes and Anne Hopper.

Branch Manager Katie Johnston said: “Our community means many different things to the people living here and everyone has their favourite parts of the town so we set our customers the challenge of showing us what they liked best and had an absolutely fantastic response.

“Judging all the photos that came in was a really difficult task and we would have liked to include far more images than we’ve been able to, but we think we’ve chosen a great selection.

“As a mutual organisation, giving something back to the communities in which we’re based is extremely important and being able to support Barnabas’ work through this competition makes it even more worthwhile.”

The competition was part of the society’s Cornerstone of the Community campaign to support organisations in its locality.
