Make it, bake it and show it

THE third annual Stannington Make, Bake and Grow Show will take place on Saturday and it promises to be bigger than ever.

There are 74 classes to enter, including handicraft, cookery, farm produce, photography and garden sections, as well as children’s classes.

Earlier this year 50 potatoes were given out for villagers to grow in buckets and a prize will be awarded for heaviest crop, while visitors will be invited to judge the entries for the scarecrow competition.

There will also be a dog show at 1pm, followed by children’s fancy dress, based on an Olympic theme.

The event finishes with entertainment from The Smokin Barrels and Mark James, with a fish and chip supper.

The show will be held at the Village Hall. Entries are invited from 9.30am to 10.45am, and viewing will open at 2pm. Admission costs £1, free for children.

Tickets for the evening entertainment cost £12.50, £8 children.

On Sunday there will be an auction of produce and pledges at The Ridley Arms, starting at 7pm.

All money raised will be shared between Stannington First School, St Mary’s Church and Stannington Village Hall.
