A RECENT Herald article about a woman’s recollection of her time in Hepscott during the Second World War has brought memories flooding back for a couple of Morpeth residents.

Anne Robson, nee Beverley, spoke of how much she enjoyed her time in Northumberland when she went to stay with relatives.

Her memories were revived after recently finding an Empire Day certificate, which she received in 1940 for helping to provide comfort and contentment to the forces.

She could not remember what she had done to get the award, but two women who live in Morpeth and still have their certificate could shed some more light on the matter.

They both said that they achieved it for knitting and sewing together some socks, hats and scarves for the troops.
